Hokitika

All Saints Hokitika is the site of the first Anglican worship on the West Coast in 1865.

Hokitika has been the hub of a significant gold-mining and saw-milling industry as well as an important seaport.  A seaside town with a population of about 3500, it has a tourist and rural servicing focus.  There are numerous cafes and souvenir shops where locally made crafts can be purchased.

Our parish was commissioned into Total Ministry on December 19th, 1999. Since then many new ministries have emerged and more people have been commissioned and ordained. Usual worship times are 9:30am on Sunday and 10:00am on Wednesday.

Groups include AAW (Association of Anglican Women), children's groups, and EFM (Education for Ministry).

The telephone is attended 10:30am to 12:30pm on weekdays.

Kowhitirangi

Kowhitirangi is a dairy farming community 20 minutes drive from Hokitika.  It is regarded as a showcase area for the West Coast dairy industry because of its very high rates of production.

Ross

Ross is a small goldmining and tourist town.  Anglicans worship at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church on the hill above the town usually at 10:00am on the second and fourth Sundays each month.

Harihari

Harihari is set in a predominantly dairy farming area with some tourist attractions and accommodation.  The South Westland Area School, with a roll of approximately 100, is a major focus for the town.

Anglicans share the Church of St James and St John with the local Presbyterian community.  Usual worship times are: first and third Sundays 7:00pm (5:00pm in winter); fifth Sundays by appointment.

Whataroa

Whataroa is another dairy farming community with a saw milling past. Like Harihari, it is dominated by the majestic Mount Adams. This is also the starting point for tours to see the enchanting White Heron colony adjacent to the Okarito lagoon. Whataroa was where our parish was commissioned into Total Ministry on March 20, 1999. Worship is at the Church of St Luke, usually at 9:30am on the first Sunday of each month.

Franz Josef Glacier

Franz Josef Glacier is a bustling and rapidly growing tourist town near the glacier and other scenic attractions. The historic Church of St James has profoundly inspirational views from the altar window - of mountains, bush, river and, at times, the glacier. It is well worth a visit. The usual worship time is at 6:00pm on the second and fourth Sundays each month.

Fox Glacier

Fox Glacier is another tourist town with many scenic attractions and, again, close to an accessible glacier. We worship at Christmas and Easter at the Douglas Memorial Presbyterian Church and in homes at other times.

Jacobs River/Bruce Bay

Jacobs River/Bruce Bay is a fishing and farming community. The Anglicans and Roman Catholic communities share the small church of St Peter (Our Lady of the River). Worship there is at Christmas and Easter and other times mostly in homes.

The Haast

The Haast comprises a number of tourist, fishing and farming communities spread over about 50 kilometres south of the main road. We worship in the Roman Catholic Church at Okuru at Christmas and Easter, and at other times by appointment.
